The Ghansoli Mookambika temple was initially founded in the year 1973 by the canteen employees of the erstwhile Standard Alkali Company, situated at Ghansoli of Navimumbai. The initiative in this venture was taken by Shri Padmanabha Kotian, who was the In- charge of the canteen at Standard Alkali Company. Since the beginning, prayers and worship was offered everyday to the Goddess in this little temple, and special bhajan programs were held every Friday.
A Decade later, in the year 1985, under the able leadership of the President of the temple committee, Dharmadarshi, Shri Anni C Shetty, a majestic and south Indian style temple plan was charted out. To fulfill this dream Shri Shetty formed a working committee of sincere people who took up the challenge and persevered day and night to realize the dream of establishing a beautiful temple at Ghansoli. This committee was registered in the year 1991.
